The alliance was founded in 1998 by American Airlines, British Airways, Canadian Airlines*, Cathay Pacific and Qantas. Overall, the members of Oneworld offer more than 900 destinations worldwide and operate millions of flights every year. Something special about Oneworld is that they have two major American airlines as their members – Alaska Airlines and American Airlines.
Benefits with the Oneworld alliance
If you are a part of the Frequent Flyer programme offered by Oneworld, you have a bunch of benefits to enjoy. This can include for example priority check-in, fast track through security and preferred boarding. You will also be able to access more than 600 airport lounges around the globe.
Another benefit with the Oneworld alliance is that the partnering airlines normally codeshare with each other. This means that they can offer seats on each other's flights, which gives you a better possibility to travel to any destination you might dream of.
